Pokémon Spread Deck — Standard 2026 (Damage-Counter Meme Deck)
Format: Standard 2026 (Regulation Marks H / I / J) Archetype cost: roughly $35–$55 in singles Difficulty: Intermediate — the combo has moving parts, but the payoff is worth it
This is the deck that makes opponents groan. Instead of attacking for big numbers, it places damage counters all over the board and then teleports them onto whatever it wants to knock out — then gusts up your target and finishes it off. It's a genuine, playable gimmick built from the Destined Rivals Team Rocket cards, and it is deeply annoying to sit across from.
There's no win-rate claim here — it's a meme deck. But the combo is real, and when it goes off it feels incredible.
The Deck List (60 cards)
Every in-set card carries a legal H / I / J regulation mark, verified against the card catalog. One slot is an intentional out-of-set acquire — marked ⚠️ and explained under the table.

Total: 60 cards.
⚠️ Sourcing note: Rare Candy has no legal printing in these six sets — the only I-mark print is in a Mega Evolution set. It's included as an acquire card (buy it separately) to skip Dottler straight to Orbeetle. If you'd rather not, run the full Blipbug → Dottler → Orbeetle line instead.
Note what's deliberately absent: this list uses Team Rocket's Ariana for draw (the DRI Judge print may be an illegal G-mark), and Great Ball / Ultra Ball / Buddy-Buddy Poffin for search (there's no confirmed legal Nest Ball in these sets). Don't add Judge or Nest Ball.
The Combo
This is what you came for. Here's the whole gimmick, step by step:
- Seed damage counters as you evolve. Evolving up the Zubat → Golbat → Team Rocket's Crobat ex line places damage counters onto your opponent's Pokémon on the way up — that's your free chip damage, no attack required.
- Set up Orbeetle. Get Team Rocket's Orbeetle into play (via the Blipbug line, or skip Dottler with Rare Candy). Its Rocket Brain Ability lets you move damage counters around among your own Pokémon — this is how you gather counters onto one Wobbuffet.
- Load up Wobbuffet. Funnel counters onto Team Rocket's Wobbuffet, then use its Rocket Mirror effect to dump all those counters onto the opponent's Active Pokémon in one shot.
- Gust the target. Use Team Rocket's Giovanni to drag up whichever opponent Pokémon you want to finish — usually one you've already been chipping.
- Finish with Persian ex. Clean up the loaded, gusted target with Team Rocket's Persian ex and take your Prizes.
The whole point: you decide where the damage goes, so the opponent can never keep their key Pokémon safe on the Bench.
Why It's Fun (and Annoying)
Spread decks win by taking control of the board instead of the biggest attacker. It's annoying to play against because nothing your opponent does is safe — benching a fragile Pokémon to set it up just hands you another target to load counters onto. It rewards planning two turns ahead, and pulling off the full teleport-and-gust sequence is one of the most satisfying combos in the format.
Prize note — you're running
exPokémon. Both Crobat ex and Persian ex give up two Prize cards when knocked out. Since this deck wants them active, respect the risk — don't leave a fragileexin front if you're about to lose the exchange.
What to Buy
Buy the cheap playable prints, not the alternate arts — the base Double Rare of each ex plays identically to its expensive Special Illustration Rare version. The full Destined Rivals Team Rocket line plus the Ancient Scroll staples are cards we stock. Build this deck from GameShuffle singles →
